Hans Weinmann's villa was first occupied by the Gestapo, the German secret state police, and from March 1943 it was said to have been the residence of the Reich Minister of the Interior. In 1945, all the family's property was confiscated without compensation - as German property based on president Beneš's decrees.
The villa became a garrison house for the Czechoslovak Army, and later housed the political school of the regional committee of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia and the evening school of Marxism-Leninism. Since 1984, the villa has served as the House of Czechoslovak-Soviet Friendship, and even housed the consulate of the USSR.
Since the autumn of 1990, the villa has served the public as the North Bohemian Scientific Library, which local patriot and patron Weinmann would certainly appreciate.
Why do you think Hans Weinmann's family in the USA changed their last name to Wyman?
