Under the leadership of Soviet advisors, who were constantly afraid of new Jewish conspiracies, the Czechoslovak StB also established a special department to combat Zionism. One of its tasks was to monitor all Jews in the country, the birth of their descendants, their addresses, their migration or deportation, district by district.
A small sample of such lists, preserved in the Security Service Archives, shows the considerable number of “Zionists” settled in the Ústí nad Labem region at that time:
