After his divorce from Lucie Lindenmann, Ernest Neuschul focused on his career as a painter and settled in Berlin, where he became a member of the expressionist art group Novembergruppe, which professed collectivist socialism.
After the Nazis came to power, any public activity of the Novembergruppe was banned and its members were labeled communists. For Neuschul, Nazi propaganda had the effect that he actually became a believing communist - and he returned to his native Ústí, where he became chairman of the Czechoslovak-Soviet Friendship Society. However, he remained primarily an avant-garde painter.
