Like most major city squares, the Ústí nad Labem square is associated with many historical events.
For example, with the communist demonstration against fascism, held on September 5, 1937. The economic crisis hit the Ústí nad Labem region really hard, many lived in poverty. The communists and social democrats offered ideological solutions, but also the idea of a united popular front against the escalating threats from neighboring Germany.

The massive demonstrations of Ústí Germans in support of Czechoslovakia were of course noticed by Nazi propagandists, and from the end of 1937, photos from this demonstration appeared in most brochures demanding the liquidation of Czechoslovakia as a "Bolshevik ulcer on the body of Europe".
