Bernhard Kraus owned a steam mill in the Kleische valley, which burned down in 1900. In 1913, he bought the Güttler mill on the former Biela island and established a production of biscuits, sponge cakes, waffles and gingerbread there. After his death, the ownership of the Adlerwerke Kraus company passed to his sons Otto and Ernst.
Ernst lived in this house with his wife Olga and two sons, Willy and Walter. Like other gentlemen in the German-speaking European area, Ernst Kraus was a knight of the then popular fantasy kingdom of Schlaraffia, where he performed under the name Tourist der Piccolo. He was also an avid amateur actor and a Freemason.
