After the occupation of Ústí nad Labem, Ernest Neuschul fled to Prague with his mother, wife and son Petr and immediately began looking for ways to leave. His model Mimi Wotzilková also fled to Prague with her parents and brother. But while the Czech authorities tried to get rid of the refugees and German threats escalated, the free world did not want to accept the Jewish refugees, stating that they were agents of Nazi Germany who would only take away their people's jobs. Ernest Neuschul finally left Prague on time. Only the boxes with his lifetime of painting, sent to England by ship, were lost somewhere in northern Europe.
