In the footsteps of the Jewish inhabitants of Ústí nad Labem

The not returning

After the war, Ernest Neuschul was again warned by good friends: this time against returning home. For a former communist from a German-speaking Jewish family who had publicly condemned the Soviet Union's alliance with Nazi Germany, returning might not have been safe.

This is how Mimi Wotzilkova remembers that time:

Ernest Neuschul never fully recovered from the discovery that most of his family had been murdered and that he could do nothing to help them. He completely changed his painting style and suffered from severe depression. He remained in England with his wife, Mimi Wotzilka rented out part of his home. He died in September 1968.

How is Ernest Neuschul remembered today at the site of his birthplace?
