Bedřich Süss was born in March 1914 in Holešov, due to the anti-Jewish pogrom there in 1918 the family moved to Přerov.
His father was a plumber, his mother came from a family of bakers. He had three siblings. At the age of 14 he went to Brno to apprentice in an electrical factory. After his apprenticeship he joined the air regiment in Olomouc and became a radiotelegraphist.
He survived the Terezín ghetto and the camps Zossen-Wulkow bei Trebnitz and Schnarchenreuth. After the liberation he worked as an electrician.
