The house you are standing in front of is part of Brno's Jewish history. In 1900, on the initiative of the Zionist activist Max Hickel, the important publishing house Jüdischer Buch- und Kunstverlag was founded here.
As you can read in the German text of the advertisement above, the publisher's office was also able to order prayer books with translations of the Hebrew text in both German and English, machzorim for holiday prayers, decorated gift prayer books, mezuzahs (door hangers) and silk or woolen tallitot (prayer shawls) in all sizes.
