Kol nidre The Kol Nidre prayer, which can be translated into English as "all the vows," opens the service on the Jewish Day of Atonement, Yom Kippur in Hebrew. The text is in Aramaic and its recitation corresponds to the individuals' appearance before the rabbinical court. During the holiday, the faithful are asked to confess all transgressions against their faith, especially forced vows to abandon the faith of their ancestors. Yom Kippur Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, is the holiest Jewish holiday. It commemorates the day when the Lord forgave the Jews their idolatry in the form of the golden calf. Moreover, on the same day, according to tradition, the forefather Abraham made a covenant with God by circumcision. The Day of Atonement, which culminates the ten days of repentance, is celebrated by believers with a day-long purifying fast from both food and drink - and intense prayers. They ask forgiveness for all people whom they may have harmed, even unknowingly, in the past year.
