Traces of Jewish life in Dubrovnik

Synagogue today

Today, the Dubrovnik synagogue is still situated in the same location where it was originally built and remains active, despite the small Jewish community residing in the city. In 2003, a museum was inaugurated on the synagogue's first floor, showcasing the historical treasures that have been collected by the Jewish Municipality of Dubrovnik over the centuries. The museum also houses records of Jews who perished in the 1667 earthquake, original documents, and a section dedicated to the Holocaust and the suffering endured by the Jewish community. It serves as the sole place in the city where visitors can explore and discover the presence of Jews throughout Dubrovnik's history and their ongoing contributions to the community.

After all that you have learned during this stop, what do you think the synagogue of Dubrovnik represents today?
