Traces of Jewish life in Dubrovnik

Old cemetery today

The land where the old cemetery once stood was eventually sold by the Jewish Municipality to private individuals for construction purposes. Today, the location is occupied by the firefighters' department of the city of Dubrovnik. Apart from the street name, Grebi Žudioski (Street of Jewish Graves), there are no visible reminders of the former Jewish cemetery at the site.

The new cemetery, situated near the Boninovo cemetery, remains in active use for the burial of Jews and is maintained by the Jewish Municipality of Dubrovnik. In 2006, a monument commemorating the victims of the Holocaust was unveiled at the cemetery, featuring the names of 27 Holocaust victims. However, the cemetery is permanently locked and can only be visited with prior arrangement through the municipality.
