Hotel Wregg was built in the 1920s and was one of the first larger hotels for tourists in Dubrovnik. It was located in Gruž, behind today's Hotel Petka. As it had many rooms and everything needed to accommodate a large number of people, it served the Italians as a camp for Jews during the Second World War. They stayed there until the Kampor camp on Rab was built, where they were then moved.
Listen to Sara Granada's testimony describing how the camp looked like and the experience of being imprisoned here. Afterwards, watch Sara Tolentino Slyen as she introduces original documents issued by the Italian authorities at the Wregg Hotel camp, which granted permission for her father to leave the camp.
When comparing this camp, as described in the interviews, to the typical depiction of concentration camps, what are the differences that you observe?
