Jewish Ghetto


Today's Žudioska Street, formerly Lojarska Street, was the central street of the Dubrovnik Jewish ghetto, established in 1538 by the authorities of the Republic of Dubrovnik. This marked the period when Jews started to permanently settle in Dubrovnik and were assigned their own designated quarter. The purpose of this segregation was to facilitate greater control and oversight by the local population and authorities.
