Jewish Prague

One of 580

One of the postcards asking for help, addressed to Heinz Prossnitz. There are almost 600 of them preserved in the Yad Vashem archives.

This postcard was sent from the so-called Terezín family camp in Auschwitz-Birkenau, with a return address that means "Birch village near New Berun" in Czech. Most of the prisoners of the Terezín family camp were murdered in the gas chambers and burned after six months.

Why did the Nazis allow prisoners from the Terezín ghetto in Birkenau to receive parcels for six months? What Nazi activity in the Terezin ghetto was followed by their privileged stay in the Terezin family camp?
