After the Soviet occupation of the country in 1968, the period of the so-called Prague Spring was labelled by communist propaganda directed from Moscow as another Zionist conspiracy. Fearing further persecution, most Jewish youth emigrated from Czechoslovakia. But the Jewish community in Brno did not disappear.
