Returning home


The fate of the surviving Brno Jews is rarely discussed. The first post-war years for the rest of the Jewish population were marked by an extensive health and social care programme. Most of the survivors returned with compromised health, spending long months in sanatoriums, hospitals or health facilities. The trauma of the horrors they had lived through had forever affected their psyche. Because of its proximity to the train station, the Hotel Padowetz was one of the first centres for repatriates returning home.
