The arrival of new prisoners in the Soviet labor camp.
Prisoners from Nisko who managed to survive the shooting by the SS became targets of Soviet weapons after crossing the demarcation line.
Some were arrested as spies immediately, others only after several months of refugee life in Lviv and other larger cities. All of them, including the communist believers, eventually ended up labeled as hostile and alien elements in the Soviet prison camps of the Gulag system.
Their only chance for survival was offered after Nazi Germany broke its alliance treaty with the Soviet Union in the summer of 1941 and soldiers were needed for the front lines. Former Czechoslovak citizens were able to report to the nascent Czechoslovak unit that began to form under the command of the Soviet authorities.
Robert Reich was one of the first to volunteer for the so-called Svoboda Army.
Why do you think it was necessary for Nazi Germany to first attack its Soviet ally in order for the Czechoslovak prisoners of the gulag to get a chance to be released from Soviet forced labor camps?
