The Auschwitz monument has been erected in order to commemorate the Jewish and non-Jewish Dutch citizens that were murdered in concentration camps during the Second World War. The words “Never Again Auschwitz” are engraved on the monument. We shall never forget what has happened. But how is the past remembered? Who and what is commemorated? Who is and who isn’t recognized as a hero? And who gets to decide? During this last stop we invite you to consider how history is written, based on what you have seen and heard during this IWalk.
