Jewish Resistance in Amsterdam

2/4 Testimony

In 1941 Sieny Cohen started working at the nursery school on the Plantage Middenlaan. Sieny actively participated in the resistance work of the nursery school’s headmistress, Henriëtte Pimentel, to smuggle out Jewish children. When the Germans cleared out the nursery in July 1943, Sieny and Henriëtte Pimentel were arrested and carried away, together with the children. However, they eventually let Sieny go to take over the management of the nursery.

Listen to Sieny Cohen-Kattenburg’s recollections about the rescue mission.

Answer the question:

What have you found out about the nursery school’s headmistress, Henriëtte Pimentel’s role in saving the children? And about Walter Süskind’s role?
