The story of Henriëtte Pimentel’s nursery school is intertwined with that of the Hollandsche Schouwburg. As of October 1942, the nursery school became annexed to the Schouwburg: the children of the Jewish families held captive in the Schouwburg were from then on stationed at the nursery. This arrangement made it possible to save some of the Jewish children. As a result of the collaboration between Henriëtte Pimentel, Walter Süskind and other Jewish and non-Jewish resistance fighters, around 600 children were smuggled out of the crèche.
