You are standing in front of the Gosler house (now Café De Sluyswacht), in the middle of Amsterdam’s old Jewish quarter. This area used to be the beating heart of Jewish life. Its inhabitants would celebrate Shabbat, hold markets, work hard, but also do sports. The former Jewish box club, Olympia, and its role during Nazi occupation, adds significance to this place.
Walk down the stairs that you see to the left of the cafe, stop at the crossing of the canals, and stand behind the lock facing the side of the cafe.
