Exploring traces of Jewish Olomouc

Unique documents

The archives of the Jewish Museum in Prague have preserved fragments of documents from the Olomouc office of Robert Redlich, the last chairman of the local Jewish community (which was, of course, technically only a branch of the Jewish community in Prague).

Most of them are records of negotiations with the Gestapo and other German authorities.

Among them are the records of Truda Simonsohn, which you can see in the picture.

A brief translation of the contents of each document, from top to bottom:

Robert Redlich's internal record of 30 September 1942 "The above person has a lung disease and also suffers from heart insufficiency. We are aware that she was seriously ill. She was spitting blood and was bedridden for a long time. She also suffers from heart attacks, falls unconscious and only wakes up after attempts at resuscitation."

Record of 9 November 1942 "It is reported that on the order of the secret state police, the Olomouc office, and on the basis of instructions from the Central Office for the Solution of the Jewish Question in Bohemia and Moravia, the Jewish woman Trude Gutman will be taken to the assembly camp for Jews in Prague on November 5."

Meeting at the Gestapo, 10 November 1942, from 7 to 8 am. Chief Secretary Bankl, Criminal Councillor Huntgens and Robert Redlich present. "Trude Gutmann - It is reported that she will be delivered to the assembly camp for Jews in Prague on November 5. The information was noted."
