Deportation did not happen overnight. It was preceded by a long process. The school was closed in the autumn of 1942, occupied by the military. The situation of the children and their parents gradually deteriorated as a series of measures against the Jews were announced, restricting their movement and confiscating their property. For example, they had to surrender their bicycles, radios, cars, and were told when they could go out on the streets, forbidden to go to the public baths or certain shops. In 1944 they were obliged to wear a yellow star on their clothes.
This decree was also published in the extremist Győr newspaper, whose predecessor, the Győri Hírlap, had already been banned.
