In the footsteps of the Jews of Győr

About the cemetery

In the cemetery, there is a martyr's monument next to the gravestones, which also contains a book collecting the names of the victims of Győr.

“A cone-shaped martyr’s monument stands in the eastern part of the cemetery, devoted to the memory of the victims of World War II. Its shape is a reference to the slavery of the Jews in Egypt, and the marble coffin inside is a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It was designed by the architect Manó Adler. A marble plaque with an inscription in black iron lettering was mounted to the left and right of the entrance. A book with the names of the martyrs was placed in the wall compartment" (Orbánné Dr. Mária Horváth-Orbánné: Győri Emlékhelyek és köztéri alkotások (Memorials and Public Artwork - Galgóczi Erzsébet City Library, Győr 2001.)
