Today's high school complex in Križanićeva (its eastern part) served as a temporary transit camp for the Jews of Zagreb during the preparations for the deportations in August 1942. The detainees were brought to the building and then they were transported by trucks to the Central Station, from where they were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. Before this location, the NDH authorities used two other transit camps in 1941: Zagrebački zbor (today on the premises of the Student Center) and the one on Zavrtnica. In Zavrtnica, the NDH authorities used the abandoned buildings of the “Kristalum” factory, owned by Jewish enterpreneour, Žiga Furhman.
