The meteorological column, donated by Dr. Adolf Holzer to the city of Zagreb, was erected in 1884 in the northern part of Zrinjevac. Made of Istrian marble, it was designed by architect Herman Bollé. The watch was made by Wilhelm König, a watchmaker from Zagreb. Meteorological instruments were acquired in Göttingen.
Adolf Holzer (Svätý Jur, Slovakia, 1834 – Zagreb, 1885) was a military doctor, “King’s Health Advisor and Knight of the Order of Francis Joseph I.” He was also an amateur meteorologist. Although he went to the Czech Republic after his service, he remained attached to Croatia and decided to donate part of his property to the capital of Croatia.
