In the footsteps of Pilsen Jews

Memorial Design

Of all the people identified as Jews deported from Pilsen, only 209 survived the war. More than 2,400 were murdered, hundreds more were not deported and died differently and elsewhere.

Because it was forbidden to commemorate Jewish victims in public spaces during the rule of the communist party, the Jewish community submitted a proposal for the establishment of a symbolic memorial in Pilsen's Jewish cemetery, proposing to bear all the costs itself.

The building permit was issued in June 1950.

In the picture, you can see one of the then designs, showing what the memorial could have looked like.
