Smetanovy sady 80/5
The Garden of Memories is a memorial and, at the same time, a work of art.
It was established in 2002 as part of the commemorations of the 60th anniversary of the deportation transports of Jewish population of Pilsen to Terezin. Volunteers, especially high school students, would come to the synagogue and write down the names of the victims from Pilsen on pebbles. These were placed on the area of the former Auxiliary Synagogue. Gradually, a memorial was created, in the creation of which almost the same number of people participated as the number of registered names of victims.
Thanks to the activity of the local Jewish community, the Pilsen teachers and students, the names are regularly renewed. The author and organizer of the project was Radovan Kodera, the artistic design was developed by Petr Novak.
