Part of the sermon presented by Rabbi Emil Davidovic on the occasion of Petr Weber's bar mitzvah:
Dear young friend, dear Petr!
You were born at a very sad time. At that time, almost all Jewish children were exterminated by the cruel Nazis, the pharaohs of our time. But you were miraculously saved from the same fate by God's miracle. God Himself chose your father and mother to be your guardian angels, saviors of your life, and your self-sacrificing educators. This implies a double duty for you for whole your life: Unconditional fidelity and devotion to God and the faith of your ancestors and boundless and unrelenting love and gratitude to your father and mother. Never forget all the sleepless nights they spent at your bed whenever you were ill, all the care they took so that you would never feel in need, so that your childhood would be sunny and carefree. These thanks belong to them doubly because with the commitment of their own life they saved yours.
Remember that you are the son of Yisrael that is always viewed critically by the surrounding world. Each of his acts is more strictly judged than the same act of a non-Jew. His mistakes and transgressions are attributed to the entire Jewish people. Therefore, let your effort be to learn diligently at school and then to work honestly in your job which you will choose later, so that your dear ones may be proud of you and that the Jewish community may be proud of you as its member.
Let the Lord bless you and protect you; Let the Lord shine upon your face and be gracious to you. Let the Lord turn his face to you and give you peace.
Peace and tranquility in your heart so that you are always satisfied with yourself, peace and tranquility in your home, peace and tranquility to our dear homeland and the whole world, so that we never have to worry about our children again, and peace and tranquility to all Yisrael.
Amen!"
