Synagogue is the centre and symbol of every Jewish community. This was also the case in Pilsen. Thanks to the industrial revolution, the city experienced a huge boom - and with it, also its Jewish inhabitants. The second largest Jewish temple in Czechoslovakia was ceremonially consecrated in September 1893 so that it could be used immediately for the Rosh Hashanah services on the Jewish New Year. The synagogue had its own choir and organ. It became a highly visible symbol of a self-confident and modern Pilsen Jewish community.
