In the footsteps of Pilsen Jews

The synagogue building in the post-war years

After the liberation, the furniture in the synagogue was confiscated by the National Committee. If the US military had not intervened, the main nave would probably not have been cleared for several more years.

During the occupation, state-owned companies moved into the winter prayer hall of the synagogue and into the rabbinical house in the courtyard. They continued to use these premises in an undisturbed manner after the liberation and gradually destroyed all the furnishing. The Association for the Study of Milk Quality did not vacate the premises until the mid-1950s.

The damage caused by gunfire at the very end of the war was visible on the synagogue until its reconstruction began in 1994.

Only then could also the Jewish star return to its facade.
