Stairs of Hope


As you entered the Monument you descended into a time of darkness and despair. Now, you approach the Stairs of Hope, which symbolically lead you out of the past horrors of the Holocaust, toward a more hopeful future.

The stairway and platform speak to the journey taken by the more than 40,000 Jewish survivors who came to Canada after World War II, in the hope of rebuilding their lives after the horrors of the Holocaust. For these survivors, Canada offered the promise of a new, more peaceful life far from the devastation of war and genocide.
