About the Interviewee
Mendel Good was born in 1925 in Krakow, Poland. He grew up with two brothers and one sister. When World War II broke out on September 1, 1939, Mendel’s father was summoned to forced labor. In 1941, his family was transported to a ghetto. After being in the ghetto of Nowy Sącz, he was moved to the Muszyna Concentration Camp, then to the Mauthausen Concentration Camp, and eventually liberated by U.S. soldiers in 1945 from the Ebensee Concentration Camp. Mendel was the only living survivor from his family. After moving to Canada in 1948, Mendel married Valerie Blau, a Hungarian Holocaust survivor. Mendel was interviewed by Alex Dworkin Foundation for Jewish Archives on April 25, 1982, in Ottawa, Ontario.
