About the Interviewee

Gerry Maass was born on July 16, 1918, and grew up in Hamburg, Germany. After the Nazi rise to power, Gerry fled to Stockholm, Sweden, and immigrated to Montreal in November 1938. He joined the Canadian army in 1943. After the war, he discovered that his parents had been sent to Auschwitz and killed in 1945. In 1948, Gerry married and had a son and daughter. Gerry was interviewed by the USC Shoah Foundation on May 1, 1998, in Montreal, Quebec.
