Salomon Luftig was born in Těšín on October 5, 1919, before the final division of the city. He grew up in a large, very pious family in Český Těšín. He trained as a furrier and moved to Prague. After the occupation of the rest of Czechoslovakia, he tried to persuade his family to flee, but in the end decided to stay with his parents and try to protect them. He survived the concentration camps Dębica, Kressendorf, Krakau-Plaszow, Jena, Gross Rosen and Buchenwald.
After liberation, he wanted to leave Europe, getting as far away as possible. He was not able to settle in Canada and was not granted a residence permit. He then lived in Paris, where he managed to obtain a visa for Ecuador in South America. He tried to emigrate to the United States, but even there he failed to legalize his residence and returned to Ecuador, where he married. Only then did he manage to obtain all the documents necessary to immigrate to the United States and settled in Miami, Florida.
He was a respected furrier and an active member of Jewish religious organizations, serving as a cantor in one of the local synagogues.
The interview was recorded on April 10, 1995 in Miami, Florida, USA.
