Before and during the Second World War, at the location of the present-day Student Center stood Zagreb Fair, a space for organizing fairs and exhibitions. Out of all the pavilions of international exhibitors, only the French pavilion remains. Due to its size, the existing infrastructure, and the railway access to the north and south of the country, the government of the Independent State of Croatia, as early as May 1941, began to use the space of the Zagreb Fair as a transit camp for numerous Jews and other citizens of Zagreb and the surrounding towns. The camp was not in use since August 1941, allegedly due to its proximity to the city center. There is no commemorative plaque, or any other information about the former campsite, although many students and other passers-by frequent this place.
