The statue of the woman with a palm branch was made by sculptor Sándor Mikus in 1970. On its pedestal the inscription read: “Glory and honour to our liberators”. Originally, the statue was erected on Hősök Square (Heroes’ Square) in the 16th district of Budapest to replace a Soviet memorial, which was demolished in 1956.
