Additional historical context

Following the German invasion of Hungary on March 19, 1944, more antisemitic legislation was rapidly introduced. Jews were forced to wear a yellow star, their possessions were taken away from them, they were forced into ghettos, and they were sent to perform forced labor or to death camps. More than two-thirds of the Hungarian Jews were murdered during the Holocaust.
