Laszlo Kiss and Éva Székely talk about their family traditions.
László Kiss and his twin brother Bandi (Endre) were born in Seregélyes, Hungary in 1928 to a Jewish family. László attended primary school in his hometown (Seregélyes) then move to Budapest in 1943 where he enrolled to high school, while Bandi stayed in Seregélyes. In 1944, the entire family was deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau. László and Bandi were immediately selected by Mengele to be among the twins in the so-called twin lager. They were taken to various examinations together with the other twins from the lager. The brothers were taken on a death march in January 1945, just before liberation. They tried to escape from the march and, Bandi was shot and killed. László was the only family member to survive. In 1945, immediately after he arrived home, he wrote his memoir, which was later published. László moved to Budapest and became a university professor of Chemistry. He has two children and four grandchildren. The interview was conducted in Budapest, Hungary, October 12, 1999.
