Where is my home?

The Last Voyage

Marie Schmolková was released from Pankrác prison on May 18, probably in order to continue negotiating the possibility of Jewish emigration abroad with the authorization of the German occupiers. At that time, the Nazis were still planning to solve the so-called "Jewish question" by mass emigration. Hanna Steiner was also released, and it is not surprising that she and her husband moved in with Maria Schmolka, into a room in the house on Kamzíková Street.

At the beginning of July, the Nazis sent Schmolkova, on behalf of the Central Office for Jewish Emigration, together with Emil Kafka, a representative of the Prague Jewish community, to negotiate about the possibilities of Jewish immigration in Paris. After her return to Prague, she was sent again to Paris and London. There, on the first of September 1939, she was caught up by the beginning of the war.
