The town known as Auschwitz

The deportations

In March and April 1941, the German authorities of the town renamed it to Auschwitz, they ordered the compulsory eviction of all Jewish residents in order to free up apartments for the German colonizers.

The square became a collection spot, where men, women and children had to present themselves with their luggage. They were then transported to the nearby towns of Będzin, Chrzanów and Sosnowiec, from where many people were sent to be murdered at the camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
