Jewish life in Londorf

A Visit to Londorf - then and now

On September 14, 2022, sixteen basalt pillars, each adorned with name plaques, were inaugurated as a memorial. The event was attended by several descendants of the former Jewish families of Londorf. It was initiated by the Verein für Heimat- und Kulturgeschichte der Rabenau and the Digitale ErinnerungsWerkstatt gGmbH. Each pillar represents a house of Jewish families who used to live in Londorf from 1933 to 1945. The attached name plaques provide information about their fates.

Even before the memorial's opening, survivors and their descendants visited Londorf. It was not an easy journey, as Elaine Simonson, the daughter of Ruth Wertheim, recounts. Ruth Wertheim visited Londorf, which was not easy for her. Her daughter Elaine shares their visits.
