Jewish life in Londorf

Safe in Londorf?

Leopold Wertheim had fought as a soldier in World War I and lost an arm. He was a cattle dealer. As a former soldier, he hoped, like many Jewish veterans, that he and his family would be treated better. His daughter Ruth started school in 1933 and had to change schools several times because of antisemitic insults and physical attacks. Her children were already grown before Ruth felt she could talk about her experience. Lawrence Bacow, her son, recounts his mother's memories and his visit to Londorf.

Watch the testimony of Lawrence Bacow.
