Mária Tepperova (née Rothman) was born on November 15, 1928 in Kosice, Czechoslovakia. Her father, Dezider Rothman worked as a civil servant, her mother Rozalia was a housewife. Maria had two brothers, Frantisek and Mikulas. In 1942 due to the gradual discrimination of Jew, Maria’s father got an exemption for his family, however in 1944 they were moved to the ghetto anyhow, and later they were all deported to Auschwitz. Mária was transferred to a forced labor camp in St. Georgenthal where she was liberated by the Red Army. She and one of her brothers survived the war, they both returned to Kosice. She got married and had two sons. The interview was recorded in 1997, in Rimavska Sobota.
