Neuwirth continues on page 25:
"On the third floor lived a Jewish couple, the Hirsch family. Mr. Hirsch was paralysed and used a wheelchair. The neighbours of the Hirsch family, whose name I forgot, they too were very kind and helpful people – until 1938. I had just turned 10, and those who have not lived it through, can’t believe it: the non-Jewish neighbours changed in March, with the invasion of Hitler, overnight.”
- In your opinion, what is Neuwirth trying to convey with the statement, "those who have not lived it through, can't believe it"?
