The Old Synagogue is located in a charming little street in the historic city centre, in Új (new) Street, which, despite its name, is one of the oldest streets in Sopron. The synagogue was built around 1300, half a century before the New Synagogue. The building survived in fragments only and was in use until the 16th century. It is considered to be one of the most important early Gothic synagogues in Central Europe.
