A synagogue (Jewish house of worship) is the focal point and a symbol of every Jewish community. It was the same in Vinohrady. The biggest synagogue in Prague was consecrated on Thursday, September 3rd, 1896. The synagogue had its own mixed choir and an organ. It soon became a very visible symbol of self-confident, modern, non-orthodox Jewry not only in Vinohrady, but in the whole of Bohemia.
