The girls’ orphanage, during World War II a Jewish hospital


Care of the poor, sick, orphans and aged people is an integral part of every Jewish community. The former building of the girls’ orphanage, established by the “Dime society for supporting orphaned Israeli girls in the Kingdom of Bohemia“ in 1893, became a Jewish hospital with 50 beds in 1940, one of three such institutions serving the entire Prague population of people labeled as Jews.
