Zdeněk Frank was born in 1914 in Luštěnice, he grew up in Nymburk. After the death of his father he moved to Prague in order to help with caring for his brother, placed in the Jewish boys’ orphanage in Belgická street. He managed to obtain false “Aryan” personal documents, was sent for forced labor in Austria, and survived the war. The interview was recorded on April 15, 1996.
Karel Stern was born in 1929 in Nový Bydžov, he grew up in Poděbrady. In the spring of 1941, both he and his brother became residents of the Jewish boys’ orphanage in Belgická street. In December of 1942, they were deported to the ghetto in Terezín. Karel survived the camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Fürstengrube, Mittelbau-Dora and Bergen-Belsen, where he was liberated. Interview was recorded on April 1, 1996.
Milena Procházková was born in 1930 into an assimilated Czech family in Prague. During the occupation she was labeled as a Jew. Together with other children excluded from the society, she participated in the youth activities organized by the Jewish community at the sporting complex of Hagibor. She acted in the premiere of Brundibár, which took place in the Jewish boys’ orphanage in Belgická street. She was deported to the Terezín ghetto in 1943 and that is where she was liberated. The interview was recorded on May 7, 1997.
